Short and Sweet

short and sweet

Surprising.

Who would have thought? not me... For sure!

But this is living proof I was wrong. I always thought the thinner the yarn, the better. But here, I must recon it is not true. My version in a thinner yarn is less attractive than the thicker original.

You live, you learn.

I consider my version of short and sweet however satisfactory .

STATS :

  • Pattern : Short and Sweet, bolero by Angela 'La vonne' Best, started 20 july 2007 finished 04 august 2007 (15 hours of work I think)
  • Stitches :chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and the best part : back post and front post double crochet (see video here), seed stitch.
  • Crochet hook : a definitely too small US size D (3mm)
  • Yarn : almost 6 balls of Cotton, brand Pernelle, reference “tropique”, color light pink (not the best choice, maybe), 140 yds for 1 oz 3/4, to be used with a 4,5mm hook.
  • Design : no sew cardigan (my version).
  • Level : Intermediate (I tried to make it less square shape and more curve friendly).
  •

I did a few more changes in the original design

    Real pics

    I promised

The gradation of pink looks beautiful in the sunlight…
But the string is not satisfactory. I eventually cut it off and kept only half-lenght.

I haven’t lined it yet and don’t think I will, I wear it other things I believed were skirts when I was 18, and now look like oversized belts to me.

I took this occasion to show off my lacy necklace, they compliment each-other nicely.
I should write the pattern for this one very soon :crochethook:

    my beauty

Now she’s mine… or, should I say, now, she’s hers, as once again my dear daughter laid her hand on something I started for myself, and made it hers…
I just finished my version of Boteh Scarf by Kathy Merrick.

I only did 4 repeats of the pattern as it’s for a child, should I do this pattern again, I might try it with thread and a less tall stitch, and maybe a more frivolous edging than a single row of single crochet.

It is a really beautiful design and a very quick project, considering the fact that, not having bought the pattern, I wrote it down from the pictures I collected from crochet blogs and still, it took me 3 days only. My daughter likes it very much, so she gets to wear it and I get to take nice pictures :photo:

    STATS :

  • Pattern : ma beauté, my design, directly inspired by and reconstructed from the Boteh Scarf by Kathy Merrick. I call it this way because BOTEH (bow-tey) in French sounds exactly like “beauté", the French for BEAUTY, and I think it fits her perfectly.
  • Stitches : chain stitch, half-double crochet, single crochet, trebles.
  • Crochet hook : I made the foundation row with a US 8 hook and the scarf itself with a 7.
  • Yarn : The yarn is made of 3 red acrylic threads and 1 unravelled (so that it be thin as a thread) variagated ribbon yarn…
  • Time : less than 20h.

  • Crocheted!

  • Is it knitted? Nope! Crocheted! Crochet isn't just for grannies, doilies and floppy funky scarves. I am - fairly - under 50, I have a crochet hook and a yarn ball handy in my purse and I like decorating my shoulders better than my sofa.
