Something sweet

Something sweet

I’m working of this project, a bolero by Angela Best, called “La vonne” (French descent maybe) and featured inThe Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller.
I haven’t bought the book (yet, still holding strong to keep my word) and I’m following the instructions Angela gives on her blog. They’re not complete but as I usually don’t comply to yarn and sizing instructions in patterns, I won’t miss them here…

I’ve used up two balls of yarn and I’m quite satisfied with the result. I intend to shape the armhole differently, to make room for my “curves", and, appart from a reading mistake I’ll do with because I don’t want to frog the back (that’s what you get when you read graphs at 2 o’clock in the morning), this will be the only alteration of the pattern I’ll make.

Pics with 1 and 2 yarn balls used up, and the few first centimeters used as a head-band :

STATS :

  • Pattern : Short and Sweet, bolero by Angela ‘La vonne’ Best
  • Stitches : chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and the best part : back post and front post double crochet (see video here).
  • Crochet hook : Metric size 3 mm, US size D, maybe too small though…
  • Yarn : Cotton, brand Pernelle, reference “tropique”, color light pink, 140 yds for 1 oz 3/4, to be used with a 4,5mm hook.
  • Design : It’s worked in one piece, no seams : you cut the yarn and crochet each one of the pieces where they belong and that’s it… Did I mention I just love no-sew garments?
  • I think I’ll make another one, with a bigger hook, in black silky ribbon to offer to my sister for Xmas.

  • Crocheted!

  • Is it knitted? Nope! Crocheted! Crochet isn't just for grannies, doilies and floppy funky scarves. I am - fairly - under 50, I have a crochet hook and a yarn ball handy in my purse and I like decorating my shoulders better than my sofa.
